Steve and Kelly are sorry to inform you that The Waterfront is no longer open and has been boarded up.
After four years, a lot of blood sweat and tears and indeed a lot of fun, we have found the premises to be no longer financially viable.
There are two main reasons for this: The Brewery & the Council.
So thank you to all our regulars, (who we can now call friends), thank you to all our loyal customers, good luck to all of those who held their wedding parties there,
to those who got engaged, to those who proposed there (apart from the one memorable occasion where she refused him!), and to all the companies and individuals whose functions we enjoyed hosting. And, sadly, goodbye to the Oysterfest, goodbye to the Lobsterfest, au revoir to the RNLI Summer Ball (but thank you to those who helped us raise more than £10k over the 4 years towards the RNLI) and goodbye to all of you who we met over the years!
Basically, we were on a tied lease to the Brewery who were charging up to 60% more for their product then we could achieve elsewhere so hitting our profit margins and then the Council wrote to us, wanting a 60% increase in the rateable value of the premises. As the Council also own the freehold of the property and we had a rent review due in October this year, they would no doubt have attempted a similar increase in rent.
So, the only people making any profit, in fact making a huge profit, were The Brewery. The fact that they have now boarded it up, rather than operating it themselves rather proves the point we think!
So once again many thanks and we are sorry that we can no longer help you.
